With its new Scouting Cam Black800 WiFi Solar, BRAUN Photo Technik presents a wildlife camera that combines technical sophistication with practical autonomy. At its core is an 8-megapixel CMOS sensor that enables recording in 4K resolution. The integrated solar panel with a 5200mAh lithium battery provides a power supply that allows for months of operation without changing the battery—a standby time of approximately 18 months underscores the system’s efficiency.

Three PIR sensors with a 120-degree detection angle register movements with a trigger time of 0.3 seconds. Sensitivity can be adjusted in three levels to accommodate different environmental conditions. The lens with an 89-degree field of view offers a balanced compromise between wide-angle shots and rich detail. For night-time recording, two 850nm IR LEDs are available, with a range of up to 20 meters that can be adjusted as needed.

The 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection and Bluetooth connectivity with a range of approximately 10 meters enable wireless access to the camera—settings can be conveniently adjusted without having to open the device. The 2.0-inch IPS TFT display also allows for direct on-site monitoring. Video recordings are captured at up to 30 fps in various resolutions ranging from 4K to 360p, with recording lengths adjustable between 5 and 180 seconds. For still photos, resolutions ranging from 2 to 112 megapixels are available, with a burst mode capable of 1 to 10 shots per trigger.

The camera offers exceptional flexibility in programming: time-lapse recordings are possible at intervals ranging from 5 seconds to 24 hours, while recording durations can be set to the minute between 1 minute and 24 hours. A loop recording function, in which the oldest recordings are overwritten by new ones when the memory card is full, as well as individually adjustable trigger intervals from 5 seconds to 60 minutes, expand the range of applications. Time, date, moon phase, and temperature can be optionally overlaid on the recordings—details that can be valuable during later analysis.

The rugged construction with IP66 protection rating makes the camera weatherproof and suitable for year-round outdoor use. The operating temperature range of -20°C to 60°C covers extreme climatic conditions. For security, openings are provided for a steel cable lock (8 mm diameter) and a padlock; a four-digit password protects against unauthorized access. microSD cards up to 256GB provide sufficient storage space for extensive recording series.

Power is primarily supplied via the solar panel with an integrated lithium battery; optionally, four AA batteries can also be used. A 5V-1A power adapter for charging the battery via USB-C (not included) completes the power supply options. The standby power consumption of just 0.25mA underscores the efficiency of the entire system. With dimensions of 143x107x95 mm and a weight of 406g without batteries, the camera remains compact and can be mounted in a variety of ways using a mounting strap, bracket, or the 1/4-inch tripod thread.
